Quick answer
The Helix Syn Trident is a non-vibrating prostate massager that moves when you gently contract and relax your pelvic floor. Use plenty of water-based lube, lie still for several minutes after insertion, then alternate light Kegels with slow, relaxed breathing. Most people need several sessions before anything feels like pleasure, and a "Super-O" isn't guaranteed.
The Aneros Helix Syn Trident is a hands-free prostate massager with no motor. It moves when you contract and relax the pelvic floor muscles, so the toy rocks against the prostate and the external tab presses on the perineum. To use it: lube generously with a water-based lubricant, insert slowly on an exhale, lie still for several minutes, then alternate gentle Kegels (about a quarter of your full strength) with longer, deliberate relaxation. A “Super-O”, the long, wave-like prostate orgasm users describe, comes from relaxation and patience rather than effort, and isn’t guaranteed.
This page combines our original Helix Syn Trident guide with our separate Super-O technique article, which now redirects here.
What the Helix Syn Trident is
The Helix Syn Trident is part of Aneros’s “Syn” series: a firm acetal core with an outer layer of soft, velvet-touch silicone. According to Aneros, the Trident version uses slightly firmer arms and tabs than the original Syn, which makes it pivot more readily when you contract and gives more pressure on the perineum.
Published dimensions vary by retailer. Aneros’s distributor lists a tip width of 1.08 in, a mid-ridge of 0.95 in, a stem-to-perineum distance of 1.75 in and an insertable length of 4 in. Other retailers list smaller figures, probably because they measure differently. Either way, it is narrower than most vibrating prostate toys, which tend to be 1.3–1.5 in at their widest.
| What it does | What it doesn’t do |
|---|---|
| Moves in response to your pelvic floor muscles | Vibrate, rotate or thrust |
| Stimulates the prostate and perineum at the same time | Work quickly or on demand |
| Stays in place without being held | Suit people who want strong sensation from the start |
It is designed for patience. If you want feedback in the first five minutes, a vibrating model will feel more rewarding. Our best prostate massagers for beginners guide covers those.
What a “Super-O” is
“Super-O” is a term from the Aneros user community, not a medical term. It describes an orgasm centred on the prostate that builds in waves through the abdomen, legs and spine, rather than peaking sharply. It often happens without an erection or ejaculation, and some people report several in a row. There is little formal research on it, so treat descriptions as personal accounts rather than a promise.
How to use the Helix Syn Trident, step by step
1. Give yourself time and privacy
Set aside 30–60 minutes when you won’t be interrupted. A warm shower or bath beforehand helps the pelvic floor and sphincter relax. Avoid caffeine or a hard workout just before. You want calm, not adrenaline.
2. Clean and lube
Wash the toy with warm water and mild soap and rinse it. Then apply a generous amount of water-based lube to the toy and your body. Too little lube is the most common reason for discomfort. A lube applicator (a needle-free syringe) makes internal application easier and less messy.
3. Breathe before you insert
Spend a few minutes breathing slowly into your belly: in through the nose so your abdomen expands, out through the mouth. Notice the muscles around your anus soften as you breathe out. You’ll use the same breathing throughout.
4. Insert slowly on an exhale
Rest the rounded tip at the entrance and wait. On a slow exhale, apply light pressure and let your body draw the toy in. If you meet resistance, stop and wait for the next exhale. Never push through discomfort. When it’s fully inserted, the external tab should sit on the perineum (the skin between the scrotum and anus).
5. Do nothing for several minutes
Lie still. Don’t contract anything. This lets your body adjust and stops the unconscious clenching that blocks sensation. A feeling of pressure, fullness or warmth is normal.
6. Learn the three muscle actions
The movement comes from the pelvic floor, the muscles you’d use to stop urinating mid-stream. Mayo Clinic suggests using that only to identify the muscles, not as a routine exercise.
- Kegel (gentle contraction): squeeze to about 20–30% of your maximum, hold for two or three seconds, then let go. The toy tilts inward against the prostate.
- Reverse Kegel (active relaxation): on an inhale, imagine the area between your sit bones softening and opening, like a gentle release rather than a push. This is the step most people skip, and it matters most.
- Neutral: do nothing and notice what the toy does on its own.
A simple rhythm: a light Kegel for one or two seconds, then a slow exhale with a full reverse Kegel for four to six seconds. Squeezing harder doesn’t help. If sensations fade, go back to breathing.
7. Expect a strange build-up
Early sensations are often odd rather than pleasurable: pressure, the urge to use the toilet, or small involuntary twitches. This is where most people give up, usually because they start forcing it. Do the opposite: relax more and slow down. It can take several sessions before you notice pleasure.
8. Let it happen
When you are fully relaxed, waves of sensation may begin without effort, sometimes with involuntary contractions that make the toy move on its own. Stay still, keep breathing and keep the pelvic floor soft. Reaching for it tends to make it fade.
Positions to try
- Side-lying, knees slightly bent: the easiest position to relax in. Start here.
- On your back, knees bent or hips raised on a pillow or wedge: many people find this improves contact with the prostate.
- Knees towards chest: more pressure and intensity, but harder to relax.
- Semi-reclined: gravity helps you feel the toy move.
Comfort matters more than intensity, especially in the first few sessions.
Common mistakes
- Contracting too hard or too often. Gentle, slow movements work better.
- Holding your breath. Shallow breathing increases tension.
- Rushing insertion or using too little lube.
- Skipping reverse Kegels and relaxation.
- Treating each session as pass or fail. Most users describe gradual progress.
If you’d rather have vibration
Some people prefer a motor that does the work, at least while they learn where the prostate is and what stimulation feels like. Two catalogue options keep the size modest. A slim rotating massager with a perineum arm:

Neither replicates the Helix’s muscle-driven motion. They suit a different, more direct kind of stimulation. Our rotating vs thrusting prostate massagers guide explains the motorised options.
Safety and aftercare
- Only use toys with a flared base or external arm for anal play. The Helix’s arms prevent it travelling too far.
- Stop if you feel sharp pain, and don’t use it with haemorrhoids, fissures or after recent anal or prostate surgery without medical advice.
- Remove the toy slowly on an exhale. Wash it in warm, soapy water, rinse and let it dry before storing, as described in how to clean your sex toys safely.
- Some people feel deeply relaxed or emotional afterwards. Drink some water and rest.
Is it right for you?
The Helix Syn Trident suits people who are curious, patient and comfortable with slow, meditative sessions. It doesn’t suit anyone who wants quick, strong sensation. For that, start with a vibrating model and come back later. Either way, the most important skills, relaxing the pelvic floor and breathing slowly, are the same.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Aneros Helix Syn Trident good for beginners?
Aneros recommends it for new and experienced users, and its size is modest (about 1 in across the head). The harder part is the technique, not the size. Beginners who want feedback straight away often find a vibrating massager easier, then come back to the Helix once they know what prostate stimulation feels like.
How long does it take to have a Super-O?
There is no reliable timeline. Many users describe several sessions of mild pressure before they notice pleasure, and some never have what the Aneros community calls a Super-O. Treat early sessions as learning muscle control rather than chasing an orgasm.
Can I use silicone lube with the Helix Syn Trident?
Use water-based lube. Silicone lube can degrade some silicone surfaces, and the Helix Syn has a silicone outer layer. A thicker water-based lube lasts longer for anal use; reapply if it starts to feel dry or drag.
Does prostate massage improve prostate health?
Some marketing claims it does, but recreational prostate massage isn't an established treatment for any prostate condition. If you have a prostate problem, pain, or blood in urine or stool, see a doctor rather than relying on a toy.
